When necessary, work on clearing snow, salting or sanding roads and paths is carried out almost 24 hours a day. This is done to ensure safety and to ensure that residents and others are able to make their way around.

Snow clearing and ice prevention of paths begins at primary schools and then fans out into the neighbourhoods. In addition, some paths are defined as primary paths. This means that the Kársness, Kópavogsdalur and Fossvogsdalur paths are given priority.

Work usually begins at 4am and it generally takes around eight hours to cover the entire municipality.
